China has done it again. It has opened the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge located at Guizhou Province, southwest China – which is the world’s tallest bridge by deck-to-ground height.
It’s height is 625 meters and length is 2,890 meters (about 2.89 km) overall.
The bridge carries the Liuzhi-Anlong Expressway (Guizhou S57). It connects Liuzhi Special District and Anlong County in Qianxinan, enhancing regional transport.
The bridge has proven to be a major time-saving conveyance for the people – the crossing what used to be a 2-hour journey across the canyon now takes about 2 minutes.
The bridge cost USD 280 million and took about 3 years to complete.
The bridge is part of China’s push to improve infrastructure in remote mountainous regions, improving connectivity, boosting tourism and local economies.
Guizhou is also the location of the world’s second-highest bridge, Duge Bridge, which opened in 2016.
