Direct flights from India to China will bring a huge respite for passengers, largely traders who frequent the two countries and are currently relying on one-stop flights via Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong or Singapore in most cases to make the trip to China.

This also means good news for India based airlines who can reinstate and add flights and cash in on the huge cargo potential between the two countries.

China and India have agreed to resume direct commercial flights for the first time in five years, in the latest sign of warming relations between the world’s two most populous countries. The announcement on Monday came as India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Jan 2025.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement, said the two countries had reached a consensus “in principle to resume direct air services,” with officials expected to hammer out details “at an early date.” Adding “The two sides agreed to take appropriate measures to further promote and facilitate people-to-people exchanges, including media and think-tank interactions.”
