Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan on Wednesday said that colony/village authorities in the district cannot enforce their own versions of lockdown restrictions.

“Nobody has given them the mandate,” he told a press conference, adding that the public should report to the DTF if any colony/village authorities were enforcing such restrictions.

The DC said that they have directed some colony/village authorities to revoke their orders.

Nodal Officer for management of COVID-19 activities, K Kikheto Sema said that the colony/village leaders issuing such orders cannot be tolerated, especially when they were denying entry of dead bodies to their localities.

Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo informed that criminal case registration in the district has come down during the pandemic.

However, more than 6500 persons have been penalised for traffic violations this year alone, he informed. They are fined Rs 100 even though the Motor Vehicles Act allows for heaver penalty, he added.

“It might seem like a good achievement for the police but I won’t appreciate it because it shows the citizens’ indiscipline,” the district police chief said.

In 2020, DC Dimapur had issued similar warning to village authorities blocking entry to health workers.
