Tension heightened along Dimapur-Peren border area after three persons were killed by unidentified assailants Monday afternoon. Police and district officials rushed to the area to control the situation.
The bodies of the three deceased were later handed over to the family members after completing all formalities.
Peren Police confirmed that besides the three persons killed at least two vehicles were also burned– a Tata mobile and a Hyundai Santro.
Police further informed that two of the bodies, were recovered near one of the burnt vehicles.
Meanwhile, several civil society organizations have decided to hold a ‘Black Day’ on Tuesday in Jalukie town.
No arrests have been made in this regard. Further details were awaited even as police investigation was on.
Police set up SIT probe; Sec. 144 clamped
Director General of Police Nagaland, TJ Longkumer informed Nagaland Post that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been setup to probe into the incident, headed by a senior police officer.
Longkumer said that soon after receiving reports about the incident, he immediately directed IGP (Range) along with additional police forces to rush to the area and take stock of the situation.
Though the situation has been brought under control, the DGP said that he has ordered deployment of one company of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) and one unit of the Special Task Force (STF) in the affected area to ensure that normalcy and peace was restored.
DGP further informed that he directed the Superintendent of Police Peren to register a case in connection with the incident.
A joint operation, comprising of State police and Assam Rifles personnel, was to be carried out in and around the area. It was also learnt that several empty shells of prohibited bore were recovered from the site, which is being investigated. (Nagaland Post)
Morung Express adds: As per reports, the victims were fired upon while clearing jungle, in a place reported to be Lamhainamdi. As per the police in Peren, the shooting happened sometime between 3:00-4:00 pm in a disputed belt of the Dimapur-Peren district boundary.
