The Naga Students Federation (NSF) has expressed concern over the plight of students’ community due to poor network coverage and slow internet connectivity in the state in view of the online classes taken due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown.
In a press release issued by NSF Vice President Dievi Yano and Secretary Education Kegwayhun Tep appreciated the efforts made by Department of School Education in launching online learning programme.
The students’ federation said that it has taken note of numerous complaints received by its grievances cell from distraught students, aggrieved parents and concerned citizens.
NSF said complaints included poor network connectivity, students being unable to log in to the department’s website and registration failure in the webpage, among others.
The federation has also appealed to the Nagaland government to immediately take measures on the issues and to direct the telecom providers to provide quality network coverage and uninterrupted internet connectivity in all their areas of operation within the state.
They said that timely intervention of the state government would benefit the student community and rebuild the education sector which had been the most-affected during the pandemic.
Welcoming the ‘noble initiative of DoSE’, the NSF said students should not be at the receiving end due to the lack of access to technology and other disparities, which could hamper their academic performances and the department, the release added.
