Fifteen army personnel at the Jakhama Cantonment in Kohima have tested COVID-19 positive. The cases were among those personnel who reportedly on leave and recently joined the Cantonment. Three of the positive cases were detected on June 23 and have been added to the state’s tally while the remaining 12 tested positive on June 24.

Army sources informed that all those who tested positive were in quarantine at the camp as per military protocol, after returning from leave. Nagaland State Nodal Officer, Dr Nyanthung Kikon confirmed the news and said that all the cases are asymptomatic.

Nagaland Page reports: Sources said that the department and the army have started contact tracing of persons who came in contact with the positive patients from their place of origin and back to camp.

Health officials without revealing the actual numbers, said that samples of those coming to close contact with the 15 army personnel have been sent for testing.

Meanwhile, fear psychosis looming high among the general populace of Southern Angami region, specially the camp’s adjacent villages, i.e. Jakhama and Kigwema, the civil societies are taking up the matter of sealing the camp area with the district administration.
