Auto fares revised; New auto rickshaw permits not to be issued

The New Rates

Much to the relief of the public, the district administration has finally come in to check the auto fares in Dimapur.

Auto rickshaws fares in the commercial city of Nagaland have been functioning almost unchecked that drivers charge any figures they deem. The most common reasons for charging illegal fares include rise in fuel prices (then why does the fare not come down when fuel rates are slashed?)

Further, in another encouraging development, the deputy commissioner – also chairman of the Regional transport Authority, has stated that no new permits would be given to any new auto rickshaws as the problem of congestion and traffic has begin to trouble the administration of the city.

For their efforts, we can only thank the district administration and hope that many more such useful/thoughful actions will be announced.

Credit should also be given to ACAUT and other civil society groups for voicing out this concern.
