Assault on doctor by Nagaland police causes uproar

The assault on Dr. Nosezol Sezo Rote, Senior Medical Officer under CMO Dimapur earlier this month by 3 STF personnel was condemned by the Medical fraternity in Nagaland and the public. The three personnel tendered their apologies and was let off.

But to the shock of many, another medico Dr Mongshithung Murry of Wokha Town was assaulted by the police with batons even after he identified himself as doctor.

Dr Murry, on Friday wrote to Wokha district’s Superintendent of Police requesting him to sensitize his personnel to “desist from resorting to savage and barbaric acts.”

“IDANSB (Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch) strongly condemns the barbaric criminal act committed by police personnels of Wokha upon Dr. Mongshithung Murry as he was out purchasing essential supplies for his family. Despite earnest appeal to the police personnel even after producing his proof of identification as a medical professional, was brutally assaulted to the point of destroying the police baton on the victims head leading to massive injury and intense trauma.” wrote Dr. Kaketo Yepthomi, President, IDANSB.
