Polo Hotel Kohima Inaugurated, Boost to Nagaland Tourism

KOHIMA: Nagaland’s hospitality sector marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of Polo Hotel Kohima on October 24, introducing a new luxury accommodation facility in the state capital.

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav inaugurated the hotel at New Minister Hill, Kohima, in the presence of Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along, government officials and representatives of Polo Hotels Group.

The 56-room property is being positioned as Nagaland’s first five-star hotel, although its formal five-star classification was reported to be pending at the time of inauguration.

Overlooking Kohima and the surrounding valley, Polo Hotel Kohima combines contemporary hospitality facilities with elements inspired by Naga culture. Its interiors feature traditional textiles, indigenous artwork and architectural influences drawn from traditional Naga morungs.

The property includes guest rooms with valley views, an infinity pool and Tring Tring, an all-day dining restaurant serving Indian, Western and Oriental cuisine alongside a seven-course Naga menu.

Focus on Local Employment and Businesses

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Governor Yadav highlighted Nagaland’s tourism potential and emphasised the importance of creating employment opportunities for local youth.

He encouraged the hotel management to collaborate with local farmers, artisans, weavers and entrepreneurs to ensure that tourism growth benefits communities across the state.

The hotel management has also indicated its intention to support local suppliers and strengthen links between the hospitality sector and local businesses.

Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along welcomed the investment, encouraging more entrepreneurs to invest in Nagaland and contribute to tourism development and economic growth.

Boost for Tourism

The hotel is expected to provide additional accommodation for tourists visiting Kohima, particularly during the annual Hornbill Festival held at Kisama Heritage Village in December.

Its opening comes as Nagaland seeks to attract more visitors throughout the year by promoting its cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and historical attractions.

The inauguration marks Polo Hotels Group’s entry into Nagaland and represents a further step towards strengthening the state’s hospitality infrastructure.

The hotel’s long-term contribution will depend on visitor demand, service quality and its ability to generate sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.
