Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang, son of Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang and founder of Peren-based football club Barak FC, passed away at Olive Hospital in Dimapur on Friday evening, October 9, according to media reports citing family sources.
According to reports, Kuchi Rangkau collapsed at his residence and was subsequently taken to the hospital, where he died. The cause of death had not been publicly confirmed at the time of reporting.
PM Modi expresses condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over Kuchi Rangkau’s untimely demise and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said he was pained by the news and conveyed his thoughts to T.R. Zeliang, his family and friends during the difficult time. He also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
The Naga People’s Front (NPF) also mourned his death, remembering him for his humble nature, gentle demeanour and friendly disposition. The party highlighted his passion for sports and his close rapport with young people, and conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family.
Founder of Barak FC
Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang was widely associated with Barak FC, a football club based in Peren district that has played a significant role in Nagaland’s football scene.
Established in 2006, Barak FC won the inaugural Nagaland Premier League in 2012 and later secured several major tournament titles.
Beyond football, Kuchi Rangkau was involved in promoting pickleball in Nagaland and served as an adviser to the Nagaland Pickleball Association. He was also the proprietor of Case Construction.
