The political crisis in the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) is centered on a no-confidence motion against Chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi, filed by a coalition of 12 councillors led by Deputy chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung.

The Dissident Camp (12 Councillors) is led by Deputy Chairperson Imlinaro Ezung, this group includes 6 BJP and 6 NPF councillors who filed the motion on May 11 . The Chairperson’s Camp (11 Councillors) led by Hukheto Yepthomi is backed by 11 NPF councillors.

Under the Nagaland Municipal Act, the Deputy Commissioner can now convene a floor test to determine whether the chairperson still has majority support.
Critics say resort politics weakens democratic transparency, increases public distrust, and turns governance into a numbers-management exercise rather than policy administration.
Supporters, on the other hand argue it is sometimes necessary in highly fluid coalition politics to prevent “horse-trading.”
A lot was expected from these DMC members but they have disappointed the public with their self centred interests.
