Agreement signed for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority

In a significant development, a tripartite agreement for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority has been signed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), Nagaland Government on Thursday in Delhi.

Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio was also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the signing of the agreement, Mr Shah said that it is a momentous day for the people of Nagaland. He said that the government has taken one step forward in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a strife-free, violence-free, and developed Northeast. He lauded the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs saying that they worked as a bridge between ENPO and the Nagaland Government that led to this resolution. He further assured the people of ENPO that the Government will extend its support for the development of Eastern Nagaland.

Purpose of FNTA

  • Provide focused governance and decision-making authority that reflects local priorities.
  • Address development deficits in infrastructure, health, education, etc., in the eastern region.
  • Encourage inclusive growth while maintaining the constitutional structure of Nagaland under Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution.
