His wait finally came to an end on Sunday as Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 in the final to win Copa America 2021 title. This is Argentina’s first major trophy since 1993, as they secured the title in their fifth final in 28 years with Messi.
Messi, who is regarded as one of the greatest of all time, has won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles with Barcelona and is one of the most decorated players when it comes to club football. However, an international trophy had eluded Messi throughout his glorious career until his teammates helped him bring an end to the title drought on Sunday.
Angel Di Maria put Argentina ahead in the Copa America 2021 final against Brazil in the 22nd minute when he latched on to a long pass from Rodrigo De Paul and slotted it past Ederson to make it 1-0 in Argentina’ favour.
