NPP withdraws support to Rio government

In another twist to the Nagaland Political Drama, the NPP has now withdrawn support from the BJP-NDPP Alliance.

In a letter addressed to the Governor signed by the NPP Nagaland State President Ato Yepthomi, it has been mentioned that the earlier support letter given by the Nagaland Unit should be considered null and void.

Earlier the Governor’s Office had asked for a proper authorization and endorsement from the Party High Command for the ‘Letter of Support’ to the NDPP-BPP alliance.

“The election in Nagaland was fought between the NDPP-BJP on one side and NPF-NPP on the other side,” NPP national general secretary Vivek Raj Wangkhem. When asked why was there no alliance between the two parties pre-polls, Wangkhem said that “We are not a bigger party but BJP is a bigger party. If they had wanted an alliance with us, they should have approached us. We cannot ask for an alliance.”

Meanwhile, when asked whether the absence of NPP MlAs in the coalition government in Nagaland will have an impact the relationship between the two parties in Manipur and Meghalaya, Wangkhem said “The question of severing ties with BJP does not exists because we were never in a pre or post-poll alliance with the latter in the state.” (agencies)
