North East stands together as one against racial discrimination

In a first of its kind, Twitter was flooded with the hastags #NortheastMatters #AchapterforNE creating a “Twitter Storm”

These hastags have been consistently among the top trending topics in Twitter India since evening of June 4.

As a part of the strategy, #NortheastMatters and #AchapterforNE would run on Twitter, tagging important decision makers in the country demanding inclusion of a chapter on Northeast India in the curriculum of NCERT textbooks.

Many popular personalities supported the initiative.

There is absolutely no doubt that the #NorthEastMatters. It's essential that a chapter on the NorthEast is included in the NCERT syllabus.

The online campaign was triggered by a racial slur passed by YouTuber Paras Singh via his channel. The 22-year-old YouTuber from Punjab called former Lok Sabha MP and sitting Congress legislator Ninong Ering fromArunachal Pradesh a “non-Indian” and said Arunachal Pradesh was “part of China”. A case was later filed against Singh.
