NABARD launches Gramodyam to create 4,000 rural entrepreneurs with end-to-end business support

Rural India’s next generation of entrepreneurs is set to receive a significant boost with the launch of Gramodyam, a flagship entrepreneurship development programme unveiled by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) as part of its 45th Foundation Day celebrations.

The initiative was launched by NABARD Chairman Shaji K. V. and will be implemented in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The Institute for Industrial Development (IID) will serve as the programme’s implementing agency.

During its three-year pilot phase, Gramodyam aims to nurture around 4,000 rural entrepreneurs by creating a comprehensive ecosystem that combines entrepreneurship training, skill development, mentoring, access to finance and market linkages.

Unlike conventional training programmes, Gramodyam has been designed to provide end-to-end support throughout an entrepreneur’s journey—from identifying business opportunities to establishing and growing an enterprise. Participants will undergo psychometric assessments and counselling before receiving entrepreneurship development training, industry-specific skill programmes, mentoring and enterprise establishment support.

To ensure wider outreach, the programme will adopt a digital-first hybrid model, leveraging online platforms, social media campaigns, community mobilisation and on-ground engagement across all States and Union Territories.

Gramodyam also introduces an integrated support framework that includes business opportunity identification, business planning, enterprise management, credit facilitation, market access and post-launch handholding. NABARD said the programme is aimed not only at promoting self-employment but also at generating local employment opportunities and strengthening rural economies through sustainable enterprises.

As part of its transparent implementation mechanism, all participants enrolled under the programme will undergo e-KYC verification through NSDC’s digital platform.

A key highlight of the initiative is its comprehensive credit facilitation framework. Entrepreneurs will receive assistance in preparing bankable Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), securing loans through NABARD-supported Regional Rural Banks and other financial institutions, submitting digital loan applications and accessing relevant government schemes and incentives.

The programme’s digital backbone will enable real-time monitoring of participants throughout the entrepreneurship lifecycle—from enrolment and training to enterprise establishment and business growth. A dedicated impact assessment framework will track key indicators such as candidate mobilisation, gender inclusion, training completion, certification, GST and UDYAM registrations, operational enterprises and verified sales performance.

Speaking at the launch, NABARD Chairman Shaji K. V. said Gramodyam reflects the institution’s commitment to unlocking the entrepreneurial potential of rural India by equipping aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills, mentorship and financial support required to build sustainable businesses.

The collaboration between NABARD and NSDC aligns with the Government of India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning entrepreneurship as a key driver of rural transformation. By integrating digital innovation, capacity building, access to formal finance and market connectivity, Gramodyam aims to create a new generation of rural entrepreneurs capable of driving inclusive economic growth and strengthening local livelihoods across the country.
