Mount Olive College, sponsored by Sumi Baptist Church, Kohima, is a modest venture in the field of higher education. Sumi Baptist Church has various projects in the interest of society. Higher Education is one of those projects. The members of the church had a dream to help out the needy and desirous students of collegiate education. They had a vision to establish an institution of higher education wherein the youths would be groomed mentally, physically and spiritually to be an asset to the society. With this vision, the college was established in 1992 with all commitments and dedication.
On 26th July 1992, Mount Olive College was inaugurated by Shri K.L. Chishi, the former Chief Minister of Nagaland. Hon’ble H. Hesso became the first chairman of the Governing Body and Dr. K. K. Zhimomi (Former Registrar, Nagaland University, Campus: Kohima) accepted to be the honorary principal and the college started its first academic session of Pre – University (Arts) 1st year with 77 students on its Roll under N.E.H.U. Shillong, Meghalaya.
