Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER) is set to launch “Coffees of Nagaland” as the state’s Unique Selling Proposition (USP), signalling an ambitious push to carve out a distinct identity in India’s rapidly expanding specialty coffee market.

The initiative positions Nagaland as a speciality coffee destination, leveraging the state’s exceptional agro-climatic conditions, rich biodiversity, and time-honoured sustainable farming traditions, cultivated across several districts, under natural forest shade, a practice that not only yields coffee prized for its distinct aroma and flavour, but also actively supports biodiversity conservation.

The USP to be launched on 18th of May, 2026 by Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of MDONER, Shri. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri. Dr. Neiphiu Rio envisions “Coffees of Nagaland” as a platform for rural employment, improved household incomes, youth empowerment, and broader community development and conservation of ecology.

The Department of Land Resources, along with key stakeholders, has been laying the groundwork through plantation development, infrastructure support, and capacity building, efforts that now find renewed momentum under this branding initiative.
