Vaccine delivery goes Hi-Tech! Govt to use Drones

Very soon you will see drones or Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) zooming across the sky in remote areas delivering vaccines and drugs.

These are no ordinary drones. They will have a minimum flying range of 35 km and will carry a load of four kilos.

Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) is in the process of entering into an agreement with the drone operating companies for this purpose.

Greater use of drones could be a game-changer for medical services in the South Asian nation’s hard-to-reach rural areas where healthcare is limited and roads often poor, Medical Express reported.

e-commerce company Flipkart has partnered with Telangana government for delivery of Covid-19 vaccines and other essential supplies using drones in the remote parts of the state. Before launching the ‘Medicines from the Sky’ project, a six-day pilot project will be carried out in Telangana.

The african nation Ghana is one of the first countries in the world to deliver COVID-19 vaccines by drone. The drones, operated by an American company have delivered almost 25,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, Euro News reported.
