PAN 2.0 is coming soon. Know more about it

PAN 2.0 is a government-approved initiative to modernize PAN and TAN services with a budget of ₹1,435 crore.

Currently, PAN-related services are split across three platforms—e-Filing Portal, UTIITSL Portal, and Protean e-Gov Portal. PAN 2.0 aims to merge these into one consolidated system.

The project will cover a database of over 81.24 crore PANs and more than 73 lakh TANs. PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric identifier issued to Indian taxpayers, while TAN is issued to entities deducting or collecting tax at source.

Under PAN 2.0, the process will be entirely digital. Allotment, updating, and corrections will be free of charge, with e-PANs delivered to registered email IDs.

The central government has awarded the PAN 2.0 project of the Income Tax Department to LTI Mindtree Ltd for a contract value of Rs 792 crore, according to people familiar with the development. The project is scheduled to go live within the next 18 months.
