Assam’s ambitious project: Jagiroad Integrated Satellite Township

The government of Assam is planning the ambitious Jagiroad Integrated Satellite Township — a transformative urban-industrial development initiative.

Situated approximately 55 km east of Guwahati in Morigaon district, the township spans over 2,000 acres, including the 550-acre defunct Nagaon Paper Mill site.

Surbana Jurong, a Singapore company has been appointed as the master planner. Surbana Jurong was entrusted with the task of preparing the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Concept Plan, the 40-year-plan to transform Mumbai into a world-class city. It is credited with preparing the masterplan for over 30 countries.

Facilities will include residential zones, schools, healthcare infrastructure, women’s hostels, vendor logistics parks, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) infrastructure.

The township also indludes the upcoming Tata Semiconductor OSAT (Assembly & Test) plant, valued at ₹27,000 crore — the largest private investment in Northeast India — projected to employ tens of thousands.

The project will cost about ₹4,000 crore, including a ₹1,000 crore ADB loan.
