Continuous rains have wreaked havoc across several parts in Nagaland. Dimapur has reported the worst impact. Incessant rainfall since the early hours of July 5 caused artificial flooding across multiple localities, severely affecting the daily lives of residents.
The floodwaters have submerged major areas including LRC Colony, Nagarjan Road, Vilhume Colony, Netaji Colony, the Super Market bus/sumo stand, Aoyimti village, and Purana Bazar B village. Roads turned into rivers, homes were inundated, and many schools were forced to shut down.
The situation has also led to a major power blackout in Dimapur. With floodwaters surrounding houses and lanes, locals are concerned about the high risk of electrical accidents.
As on July 7, some educational institutions have been closed. The Health and family welfare department has also issued health advisory to public.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains have triggered multiple landslides along the NH-29 stretch from Patkai Christian College to Ghaspani, a section notorious for road accidents and landslide-related tragedies. Boulders and rock debris have already fallen in some areas, though no casualties have been reported so far.
Authorities have urged travellers to remain alert, monitor weather conditions closely, and avoid non-essential travel along the highway.
