Many organizations including the media have pointed out that Dimapur railway station needs to be modernized with the necessary facilities at par with other similar railway stations. Also more trains need to start from the station.
If we look at the data, Dimapur railway station handles about 8,000 passengers daily. It is among the highest revenue generating stations in North east India.
However, trains like Jan Shatabdi, BG express and Nagaland express which earlier started from Dimapur has been discontinued. Some of these trains now stop at Dimapur station for a few minutes which creates a huge rush for passengers.
It is a matter of fact that the Northeast Frontier railway has neglected Dimapur railway station for many years now.
As per reports, expansion of the station has been halted due to land encroachment. However, mordernization of the existing station and platforms can be started as more than Rs 200 crores has been made available for the purpose.
