Lakhs of people have been evacuated from vulnerable areas in Orissa and West Bengal as very severe cyclonic storm Yaas approaches the coast and is expected to make landfall in Bhadrak district, Odisha on Wednesday morning.

“Thunderstorm with lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram,” Sanjay O’Neill Shaw, deputy director general of meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, told Times Of India.

“The cyclone will intensify into a very cyclonic storm and will cross the coast of north Odisha and West Bengal with wind speed gusting to 185 Kmph. It is not coming to the northeast. If it had entered Bangladesh, there might have been some impact, but now Cyclone Yaas will not enter Assam,” Sanjay O’Neill Shaw said.
