Thousands of migrant workers leave Nagaland

Migrant workers at Nagaland gate

After Assam government opened their borders on May 3, hundreds of migrant workers can be seen lining up at Nagaland gate. Thermal scanning is done and documents are verified by Assam government officials before being allowed to return to their districts.

Bokajan SDPO John Das, while speaking to Nagaland Page “Since the opening of the gate from May 3, total 3031 people stranded in Dimapur entered Assam (till May 6) and we have been providing every possible assistance”.

“From 6 a.m. till 3 p.m. we are allowing people to cross the gate and private buses are near the border areas for the convenience of the people. During this period buses are allowed to ply and per bus can accommodate only 50 % of the seating capacity in order to maintain the social distancing”, John Das remarked.

Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur Anoop Khinchi told Nagaland Page that daily on an average around 1000 people are crossing the border and the district administration and CMO Dimapur are also assisting people for their journey to their destined locations in Assam.

Medical fitness certificates are being provided to migrant people from other parts of the country at DDSC Stadium after screening of the people.
