Dimapur airport to be connected to Dibrugarh, Imphal and Guwahati from April 1

Under the Centre’s flagship regional connectivity scheme, under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) 3.0, the Dimapur Airport will be connected to three new cities – Dibrugarh, Imphal and Guwahati.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry selected InterGlobe as the airline operator for Dimapur-Dibrugarh, while Alliance Air has been selected for the Dimapur-Imphal and Dimapur-Guwahati routes, as per reports. The routes will be made operational from April 1st, 2019.

“Affordable flying and regional connectivity under UDAN 3.0 will now connect #Dimapur in #Nagaland to 3 more cities,” tweeted Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Commerce Suresh Prabhu.

It may be mentioned that UDAN is a regional airport development and Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of Government of India, with the objective of “letting the common citizen of the country fly”, aimed at making air travel affordable and widespread, to boost inclusive national economic development, job growth and air transport infrastructure development of all regions and states of India. The UDAN 3.0 focus would be to connect iconic tourist destinations.

Under the scheme, a total of 235 routes comprising 189 regional connectivity scheme routes and 46 tourism routes will be connected across 29 states in the country.

The Dimapur Airport serves as a major connecting point not only for Nagaland but also parts of neighbouring Assam including Karbi Anglong. The airport, built during World War II, is located at 3rd mile (NH 29 formerly known as NH 39). It is the gateway and the only civil airport in Nagaland.
