Facts & Photos: Rs 18 Crore Solomon’s Temple in Mizoram

Solomon’s Temple, the biggest Church in Mizoram, located on the western periphery of Aizawl, constructed by the Holy Church (Kohhran Thianghlim) was dedicated to God on Christmas day 2017.

Facts:

Built by: Kohhran Thianghlim (The Holy Church), a nondenominational Christian sect in Mizoram founded by Dr. L.B. Sailo in 1984.

Time taken for construction: 20 years.

Sailo’s Dream: “In the year 1991, God had shown me Solomon’s Temple in my dreams. I never thought of Solomon’s temple ever before, nor had any dream of constructing it, but when I was clearly shown in 1991, as soon as I wake up, I wrote down the temple as I saw in my dream”

Capacity: The Temple area accommodates 3,000 people within the main hall and 10,000 people within its courtyard.

Temple service: The temple is occasionally used for holding church service on Sunday. It is also used as a place for Voluntary Blood Donation Programme.

Tourism: The Church is set to increase the tourist inflow and place Mizoram as one of the hotspot tourist destination in the Northeast.



Awards: The Temple bagged the Govt of Mizoram’s ‘Green Mizoram Outstanding Performance’ in the years 1999 and 2000.

Cost:

The cost of construction of the temple is Rs 18 crore, including Rs 10 crore on materials, Rs 3.50 crore for skilled labour, and Rs 4.50 crore in community labour. The church members were involved in the construction through community/voluntary labour of 3,00,000 hours.
